BGC “blooms with a new landscape”

Having a beautiful, breathable city to live in may seem like a luxury for urban denizens, but the Bonifacio Global City Estate Association (BGCEA) has made it a reality for residents of Bonifacio Global City. Amidst the high-rises and progressive urban developments in the area, BGCEA continues to push for a greener and more sustainable BGC.

The Gateway Project is an initiative of BGCEA which aims to enhance the main entry points of Bonifacio Global City. The Mckinley Gate( Mckinley Parkway), Kalayaan Gate, and South Gate (near the American Battle Monument) are the three main entrances to the city and are the most accessed. Upon passing through these gateways, an array of plants and greenery welcomes BGC residents and visitors, evoking a sense of calm and serenity amidst the bustle of the city. Also, all around BGC, a variety of plants such as palm trees, shrubs, and groundcovers are incorporated in the numerous pocket gardens. Even center islands and wall slopes throughout the city are enhanced and given a greener touch. The plants chosen are those that can thrive well on BGC’s climate.

Another visible project of the BGCEA is the landscaping of the city, particularly the main roads of BGC. The landscaping project focuses on ecologically-sound, sustainable, and horticulturally accepted approach of handling plants, from the installation process of until maintenance. In the next few years, BGCEA will increase its use of organic materials to enhance plant growth and revitalize the soil condition of the city. But the broader vision is to create an awareness for BGC residents and visitors on the many ways to help the Earth.

These projects have given BGC a very unique and refreshing vibe, making a pleasant community to live and work in. Since BGCEA started, it has always put sustainability as a priority seeing the many benefits it has to the city and its people. Through the BGC landscape, not only do the flora selections such as Fire Trees, Acacia, Golden Shower, and Copper Pods, make the city more visually attractive. Having plants all around the city encourages walking and is also very effective for climate control by screening the hot summer sun and cooling the air. These plants naturally shade the windows of buildings, providing an ideal environment for office workers in the area.

Large shrubs also serve as windbreaks to reduce wind velocities and can function as a hedge or barrier to redirect the flow of passers-by. These plants also create a sanctuary for other living species such as birds, fostering a beautiful, healthy, and vibrant community.

The result of these projects is something that will be a source of pride for all BGC residents. It will foster a sense of shared responsibility for all residents, not just for the present but also in the years to come.

Bonifacio Global City – A Paradise of Passions

A first of its kind in the country – BGC Passion Parade highlights different passions in various fields of interests bringing together enthusiasts and BGC resident in one fun filled spectacle.

As such, BGC is committed to igniting and nurturing people’s passions in an effort to help them live a happy, healthier, and balanced lifestyle of live-work-play. What best way to celebrate this but through a parade that shows off the passions of different communities.

For two consecutive Saturdays, the Bonifacio Global City community took part in the BGC Passion Parade, where runners, bikers, cyclists, car enthusiasts, skateboarders, and pet lovers joined and shared their passions with those who watched and attended the event. Though the May 28 staging was greeted by light rain showers and gloomy weather, June 4 gathered an even bigger crowd thanks to the bright, sunny skies. Co-sponsored by One Serendra and Two Serendra- who both enable residents to indulge in their passions through their wellness and fitness facilities, the Passion Parade is considered a major activity in line with BGC’s Passionfest celebrations.

Spectators lined up on the sidewalks, cameras ready, as the Passion Parade started along 9th Avenue then continued to 7th Avenue before returning to 9th Avenue before going around to 11th Avenue. Aside from the parade, five sketch artists from Formafuego gladly gave out free sketches, while free mini balloon sculptures were being given out for free an hour before and after the parade, which delighted everyone around the area. Kids and adults alike wore flower headressess, fish head pieces, and helicopters mad eby balloon twisters.

Apart from the band that proudly led the parade while playing music composed for the event, present were car enthusiasts led by members of Miata Club Philippines and Pinoy Mini, runners represented by Barely Legal, a group of runners from the legal profession, bikers, and cyclists from Loop Bikers and Mountain Bike Philippines, as well as young skateboarders and pet lovers, happily walking with their furry friends. These clubs and organizations regularly meet in BGC to express and celebrate their passions.

The clubs were not the only main attraction. Considered as the main highlight during the parade are the seven-to-12 foot high balloon clusters formed into eye-catching sculptures. These are said to be the biggest specialized balloon sculptures done in our country, using materials from abroad, ideal for the outdoors. After the parade proper, attendees were allowed to have their pictures taken with the balloons and souveniers.

As those present went home with smiles on their faces, the event is deemed successful and there is without a doubt that the Passion Parade will be an annual gathering.
